Interpretive Programs such as bus tours and hikes begin on Saturday of the Victoria Day (May) long weekend and run until mid October. Reservations are highly recommended for these popular programs.

There are Interpretive Programs for all ages and all levels of physical ability. Age limits for each program are strictly adhered to plus some programs have footwear restrictions (no sandals or crocs).

For any outdoor programs, please make sure you bring a hat, water bottle, sturdy closed toe and heel footwear (running shoes are fine but no crocs or sandals), sunscreen and insect repellent.

Centrosaurus Quarry

On sale starting February 17, 2015 for the whole season (May 16 - October 11, 2015).

 

Hike through rugged streambeds and over sandstone ridges to reach a bonebed that contains the remains of hundreds of horned dinosaurs! For ages 7 and up.


Price: Adult $15, Youth $8, Family $36 Pricing subject to change for 2015 season.

When you purchase a combination of 2 Adults and 2-3 Youth or 1 Adult and 3-4 Youth (up to 5 seats total) the program will find you the best rate and offer the Family pricing for 5 persons.


Length of program: 2 hours 45 minutes


Ages: Ages 7 years and up. For safety reasons infants and toddlers are not allowed on this hike. Participants under the age of 14 must be accompanied by a paying adult.


Difficulty: Moderate - 2 km distance over rough terrain.


Capacity: 35 people/hike OR 24 people/hike

The Centrosaurus Quarry Hike is your best opportunity to see the unequalled concentration of dinosaur fossils that makes Dinosaur Provincial Park world famous. You will journey through rugged streambeds and over sandstone ridges to reach a former dig site, known as a bonebed, that contains the remains of hundreds of horned dinosaurs! As you investigate the clues these fossils provide, you will be challenged to come up with your own theory to explain their mass death.


Be prepared for your hike: for your safety and comfort please bring water, sunscreen, hat and insect repellent. Note footwear restriction on all hikes: participants must wear sturdy closed toe and closed heel footwear; NO sandals or flip-flops allowed on hikes! Also note age restrictions for this hike. No toddlers or "babes in arms/carriers" for safety reasons.


Alternate Program: In the event of rain, wet conditions, unsafe road conditions, or other conditions that threaten the safety and comfort of participants, programs may be cancelled or replaced with alternate programs at the regular ticket price. Content of program is the same or similar. Refunds are available if visitors choose not to participate in the alternate program.

Explorer's Bus Tour

On sale starting February 17, 2015 for the whole season (May 16 - October 11, 2015).

Experience the stunning views of the beautiful Natural Preserve from the comfort of a tour bus and during short excursions into the badlands. Great for all ages.


Price: Adult $14, Youth $8, Child $4, Family $36 Pricing subject to change for the 2015 season.

Like the explorers who have travelled here before you, escape the ordinary and venture into the rugged badlands of Dinosaur Provincial Park. The Explorer's Bus Tour provides the chance to experience the stunning views of the Park's beautiful Natural Preserve from the comfort and safety of the tour bus, while also providing opportunities for you to discover this amazing environment for yourself along the way.

Fossil Safari

Enjoy hands-on discovery of fossils as you explore the park's Natural Preserve. Great for all ages.

The Fossil Safari provides hands-on discovery of the Park's rich fossil resource from otherwise inaccessible locations in the Natural Preserve. Load onto the Park's 24 passenger tour bus to drive to the site then a short walk will take you to where you will learn the secrets of fossil- finding and the techniques for identifying the remains of turtles, fish, mammals and, of course, dinosaurs. Although you will be allowed to discover fossils yourself, there is no digging involved and all material will be left in the Park.


Be prepared for this program: for your safety and comfort please bring water, sunscreen, hat and insect repellent. Note footwear restriction on this program: participants must wear sturdy closed toe and heel footwear; NO sandals or flip-flops allowed due to uneven surfaces and cactus.


Alternate Program: In the event of rain, wet conditions, unsafe road conditions, or other conditions that threaten the safety and comfort of participants, programs may be cancelled or replaced with alternate programs at the regular ticket price. Great Badlands Hike

On sale starting February 17, 2015.

 

Challenge yourself with a half-day trek into some of the most beautiful and rugged parts of the fossil- rich badlands. Ages 10 and up.


Price: Adult $24, Youth $16 Pricing subject to change for 2015 season.


Length of program: 4 hours


Ages: Ages 10 years and up. For safety reasons infants and toddlers are not allowed on this hike. Participants under the age of 14 must be accompanied by a paying adult.


Difficulty: Difficult - 6 km distance in rugged badlands


Capacity: 17 people/hike

Especially designed for the adventurous, the Great Badlands Hike is a half-day trek into some of the most beautiful and rugged parts of the Park. As you are guided over steep slopes and through coulees you will learn how fossil hunters tackle "les mauvaises terres à traverser" in their search for dinosaur bones, and how modern plants and animals have adapted to survive in this challenging environment.

Guided Excavation 1 Day

Join a real excavation in this fully authentic dig and get the chance to uncover fossils never before seen by human eyes. For ages 14 and up.


Price: $165/person Pricing subject to change for 2015 season.


Length of program: 7 hours


Ages: Ages 14 years and up (participants ages 14-17 must be accompanied by a paying adult).


Difficulty: Difficult. Come prepared for sitting or kneeling on the ground, working with tools under the hot sun, and hiking in slippery conditions.


Capacity: 6 people/day


Wheelchair accessible: No


This is a once-in- a-lifetime opportunity to participate in a fully authentic dinosaur dig. With an experienced palaeontological technician as your guide, you will learn the techniques of excavating dinosaurs and work in a team to uncover fossils never before seen by human eyes. The day includes an orientation to the Park and the research project, working in a real quarry, and hiking and prospecting for new fossil finds. Your work will contribute to research going on at the Royal Tyrrell Museum. Lunch is provided.


Reservation information: Reservations can be made up until 2:00 p.m. the day before the scheduled program day.


Alternate Program: In the event of rain, wet conditions, unsafe road conditions, or other conditions that threaten the safety and comfort of participants, programs may be cancelled or replaced with alternate programs at the regular ticket price. Palaeo Puzzlers

Challenge your skills as amateur palaeontologists as you inspect and handle real fossils. Designed for families; recommended for children ages 4 - 8 years of age.

Get ready to investigate real fossils just like a palaeontologist! This indoor program, designed for families, will challenge your skills as amateur palaeontologists as you inspect and handle real plant and animal fossils from right here in the park. Working together you will build a picture of the ancient Cretaceous community and gain a greater understanding of what the world was like during the time of the dinosaurs.

Sunset Tour

Journey into secret areas of the Park to get the perfect photograph, or to simply soak up the natural beauty of the badlands in the evening light. Ages 14 and up.

This unique evening tour is designed especially for photographers and people looking for a quieter nature experience. Taking advantage of the cooler temperatures and wonderful evening light you will be guided into some of the secret areas of the Natural Preserve and be given ample time to get the perfect shot, or to simply soak up the natural beauty of the badlands. Locations may include Valley of the Gold, Valley of the Castles, and Valley of the Moon. Tips and tricks for photographing the badlands will be provided.


Be prepared for your tour: for your comfort and safety please bring water, sunscreen, hat and insect repellent. Please wear closed toe and heel footwear such as hiking boots or running shoes with tred on the bottom. Arrive ½ hour before tour time to pick up your tickets at the Park Visitor Centre. Please note that due to the variability of sunset times, we cannot guarantee participants will be able to photograph the actual sunset.
